摘要: There are many excellent textbooks that discuss the theory of ICT systems. However, those books cover only the theory and discusses a lot of details which are hard to be understood by our students. Some laboratory experiments are used to complete the theoretical studies but, because of the limited lab resources, those experiments are too simple, the students cannot change the system configurations and they cannot try their own design. As a result, a wide gap develops between the theory and practice of ICT systems in education.

A universal portable software defined electronics platform developed to teach info-communications systems is proposed in the talk. Because every application is implemented in software, the universal platform is suitable for the implementation and simulation of any kind of communications or measurement systems where the information is carried by band-pass signals. The key issue is that the Software Defined Electronics (SDE) platform needs only a laptop and two Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) devices, and it can be used everywhere without a laboratory infrastructure.

主讲人简介Geza Kolumban, Fellow of IEEE, was graduated from and received his Ph.D. at the Technical University of Budapest and received his C.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He spent 15 years in the professional telecommunications industry where he developed microwave circuits, PLL-based frequency synthesizers, and was involved in many system engineering projects from satellite telecommunications to microwave digital radio systems. After joining the university education he showed that chaos may exist in autonomous PLLs and established noncoherent chaotic communications as a brand new research direction. He developed DCSK and FM-DCSK, the most popular chaotic modulation schemes. He has been a visiting professor and researcher to UC Berkeley, PolyU and CityU in Hong Kong, University College Dublin and Cork, Ireland, EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland, INSA-LATTIS Laboratory, Toulouse, France, TU Dresden, Germany, Beijing Jiaotong University, China. Prof. Kolumban has been providing consulting service for many big companies from Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology to National Instruments. He is a full professor at the Pazmany Peter Catholic University, Budapest, Hungary and is an Adjunct Prof. at the Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia. He has established the „Software defined electronics and virtual instrumentation” Lab in Budapest, its PXIe- and USRP-based SDE platforms are used in both education and research.
